Wave

Motivating the design for "Wave" was the idea of holding a piece of Vienna in one’s hand, an artifact, a fragment from Vienna. The wave is a permanent part of the ornamental repertoire of turn-of-the-century Viennese architecture. In Jugendstil it symbolizes the soul’s unconscious realm. The gift bears this ornament of the abstract wave of water—it presses it into the hand that holds the cup, allows for its immediate haptic experience. In the carafe, its form is echoed directly. For bkm, the circle thus comes to a close: the wave as symbolic of the unconscious in Jugendstil; the unconscious, as symbolic of Vienna.
