Designers research, design, plan and produce. The areas in which they can contribute their expertise or apply design strategies are increasingly diverse. However, design teaching often lags behind the dynamic development of design practice and is often based on designers' personal experience, which is often lost when they stop teaching.

The Institute for Design Education Austria has therefore set itself the goal of developing, testing and evaluating current contributions to the theory and practice of design education and building up an archive for design education.
